Created by the team at Avenues Event Management, Handmade tells Wellington’s creative story to the rest of the world through hands-on experiences ranging from sculpture, dumplings and screen-printing, to apothecary, graphic design and leatherwork.
Handmade provides the opportunity to learn with some of New Zealand’s most influential creative minds in the heart of the creative capital. What started as a small event has now evolved into an appreciation of all craftsmanship and the talented people within our creative industries.
I was engaged to reposition and evolve the event from something that felt aligned with the arts and craft industry to a more contemporary and universally accessible event. It was also important not to lose the hands-on, tactile appeal of Handmade to distinguish it from the plethora of technology-based gatherings.
