TREADMARKS was my first exhibition which took place in 2008. This was the culmination of many years peddling Wellingtons’ hills and coastlines and the desire to express these journeys through art.
The concept of using tire tread seemed like the perfect way to capture the mountain biking motion with the various vistas caught from behind the handle bars. The emphasis on line and direction combined with the textured tread effect capture the rugged and wild nature of these journeys.
Some of the works are done on large, custom-made, loose-weave hessian canvases to further enhance the bumpy, off-road aspect of the rides.
