POPTIC
OPTICAL ART EXPERIENCE
POPTIC is a multi-dimensional optical art experience exploring perception, illusion and the shifting nature of reality featuring large-scale paintings, face-morphing lightworks, UV reactive installations, stereoscopic art, woven forms and immersive moving image environments.
Existing somewhere between contemporary art exhibition and perceptual playground, POPTIC is the culmination of 10 years of multi-disciplinary exploration and invites audiences into a world where images transform through, distance, light, movement and participation.
Successfully piloted in Wellington New Zealand, POPTIC generated exceptional audience engagement and revealed the potential for an upscaled experience with international appeal.
Here I present the vision for POPTIC – an ambitious, multi-faceted, optical art experience. The project is currently seeking aligned partners to help shape, support and realise its next chapter.

PERCEPTION SHAPES REALITY
Intrinsic to my practice across all media is a deep engagement with optical phenomena. The initial spark that led to this entire body of work was to coax three-dimensional form from two-dimensional design, and in doing so, to cultivate a fluid interplay between these two realms. Depending on the viewer’s vantage point, works and installations may read as boldly abstract, strikingly representational, or a beguiling, simultaneous fusion of both.
At exhibitions and events, I invite audiences to move beyond passive viewing, to explore my work from multiple angles and even through the lens of their phone cameras. My practice has evolved beyond art creation to curating immersive experiences, inviting discovery and intrigue through shifting perspectives.

Lightworks Gallery
ANIMATION THROUGH COLOUR
These works are an innovation of colour and form, featuring interwoven faces that emerge and transform when subjected to coloured light. The effect is created due to the reactivity of semi-translucent coloured materials with different light hues, where the colours are absorbed or transmitted to advance or recede different facial features, or to merge them into a hybrid synthesis.

Nowadeus
immersive experience
Enter a surreal arena where eight monumental “icons of today” take form – bold visual representations of the obsessions and fascinations that shape our everyday life: technology, fitness, beauty, fame, materialism, outrage, Demagogeury and power. Nowadeus is a fully animated optical art experience featuring a commissioned musical score from an award winning film composer and sound designer.

UV Gallery
IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE
Walk through a series of surreal spaces illuminated by ceiling-mounted blue light artworks. Neon colours pop with reactive radiance revealing a series of optical experiences. Featured above are two permanent installations commissioned by Puzzling World Wanaka as part of their revamped illusion precinct. Here circular avian lightworks guide you through the space with the walls revealing creatures of the land and the floor featuring a beautiful collection of marine life. Around the corner a series of oxymorons are presented through characters that emerge to tell their opposing stories.

Backwards Gallery
TRAVELATOR EXPERIENCE
Stepping into the backwards gallery means surrendering to a disorienting zig-zagging of hallways, where each giant artwork looms in front of you, massive and abstract. As you glide further away, the pieces begin to cohere; brushstrokes and splatters resolve into faces and the full representational art emerges, sharp and decipherable.
